This year, the Maryland General Assembly considered legislation to both protect traditional marriage in the state and to change its definition. The bishops of Maryland released a statement, Marriage in Maryland: Securing the Foundation of Family and Society, which reflects upon the ability of the marriage between a man and woman to bring about new life. This unique capacity of the union of man and woman is why marriage must be protected in law.
