2010 Gubernatorial Candidate Survey

2010 Gubernatorial Candidate Survey

Letter by Maryland's Bishops on 2010 Elections

Read the joint letter by Maryland's Bishops urging Maryland's Catholics to vote in recognition of the important contribution that every voice makes on Election Day, especially in cases where the difference between candidates presents a clear moral choice.

Gubernatorial Interviews

Governor Martin O'Malley and former Governor Bob Ehrlich, Jr. separately were interviewed by the Maryland Catholic Conference's Board of Governors and Administrative Board in early October.

Maryland's Catholic newspapers were present. Following the board interviews, both Governor O'Malley and former Governor Ehrlich also gave separate interviews to the newspapers.

General Election Responses

Every election year, the Maryland Catholic Conference surveys Maryland candidates for the U.S. Congress, governor and General Assembly about their positions on issues of interest to Catholics. The responses of the gubernatorial candidates are below.

A printable survey response sheet of the gubernatorial candidates is available. Please click on a candidate's last name to open the sheet showing all of the candidates and all of their responses.

Each primary candidate received the survey by mail and by email; non-responding primary candidates received an additional copy of the survey by mail, three more times by email, and were contacted at least once by phone. All general election candidates registered and approved by the Board of Elections by Tuesday, September 28 received an additional copy of the survey by mail or email if they had not yet responded during the primary election.

The candidates were asked to either “Agree” or “Disagree” with each of 13 issue statements (Numbers 1-13). A blank response to a statement means the candidate did not choose a position or that the response was qualified.

Click on the links below to see the full issue statement/question.

The Maryland Catholic Conference does not endorse or oppose any candidate, under any circumstance, and no inference of endorsement or opposition should be concluded as a result of the information provided here.
